BRIEF HISTORY OF THE HOUSE
On the ancient urban plan, drawn by Marcus Gerardus in 1562, our house is located inside the
old medieval towngates. In those former times, the house only had one floor and a step gable.
Details from the cityplan of Bruges made by Marcus Gerardus dd.1562
The structure of the ground-floor and the first floor is from the 17th century, with elements from the 19th century, such
as the large oak doors, the wooden winding staircase with sculptured banister, the etched dome of glass with styled
patterns, the symmetric profiled frames in the walls of the stairwell...
In 1848 the house has been rebuilt into its present-day form: they added a floor where now the guestrooms are.
The permission for the renovation of our house Riddersstraat 9, dd. May 11th 1849.
Since April 2001, our house, which is situated in the most ancient part of the town, has been listed officially monument of
historic value.
